First of all, Your daughter/son isn't being just "rebellious", they are concerned about the suffering
of animals, their health, and/or the environment. If your pre-teen/teen is showing you this, it shows that they are probably
MUCH more mature than their peers, they have researched the effects of meat on animals, people (workers in meat-packing plants),
the environment, and themselves. Please support their decision in being vegetarian/vegan, it was all meant for good.
The Animals
Animals are concentrated into sheds by the tens of thousands, they are cruelly slaughtered and are transported violently,
chickens get their beaks cut off at literally one day old without pain killer, pigs get their teeth ripped out of their heads
at a very young age, their tails cut off, and get castrated all without pain killer, cows get branded - not once, not twice
but several times in a lifetime plus castrated without pain killer. This is mostly why People go vegetarian/vegan, the treatment
of farm animals on factory farms is unbelievable.
The Environment & World Hunger
The environment is destroyed all the time by the meat industry, instead of using land for growing normal corn
which is meant for farm animals, we could use it for vegetables and fruits that can feed many, many more humans than what
the cows, chicken, and pigs which eat that feed and make much less food in the end. This ties into world hunger also, if you
see a charity that feeds poor children a meal with meat in it almost every meal, remind them that we could grow literally
tons more food than that meat and it's a lot cheaper to feed them vegetarian foods.
Health
vegetarianism and vegan-ism is much more healthier than a meaty diet.
Why?
Meat is packed with saturated fat, disease, and can give you colon cancer, cheese is really fattening also, I'm
a vegetarian myself and I've lost weight, and if your daughter/son is vegan, unless they're packing themselves up with
candy, they should be very healthy! Only 2 percent of vegans are overweight, in comparison, over 2/3rds (66%) of
Americans are overweight.
Human Rights
Other issues:
Religion
Many people think that the bible says that it's OK to eat animals, but all it says is:
"dominion over all animals"
but many scholars who study the bible say dominion actually means more to care for animals than to use them for food.
Natural Instinct
Many people also argue that it's our natural instinct to eat an animal or that many other animals eat other animals to
survive, so why not us?
People are able to survive off a vegetarian/vegan diet and this doesn't give us the right to put animals
in cages and slit their necks open. wild animals actually kill their prey swiftly and the animals that are killed are living
in a sun-lit area where they can run free and enjoy life.
We keep animals in cages, workers torcher animals often on factory farms, and make their pain prolonging. We take male chicks
who were bred into a world that didn't want them and grind them up alive, this isn't normal.
